the sanctuary of which is deep in the mountains, is different in atmosphere from usual shrines. Mitsumine Shrine in Oku-Chichibu is located on top of Mt. Mitsumine, which is 1,102 meters above sea level. Visitors will be overwhelmed by this space, filled with serenity altogether different from the hustle and bustle of urban areas. The historic worship hall of the shrine shows its stately appearance right in front of visitors walking through the approach in a quiet forest. The main hall behind the worship hall is decorated colorfully, and harmonizes with the beauty of the lacquer coating on the entire main hall. The remote worship hall is further deep in the shrine. This is a building where visitors worship the rear shrine on Mt. Myohogadake. The view of the area at the foot of the mountain seen from here is wonderful. There are many other must-see spots on the premises, such as eight-ridge lantern cages beautifully sculpted, a bronze shrine gate that was transported by water from Edo, and a Zuijin-mon gate with an exquisitely handwritten tablet.
